She is preceded in death by her parents, Grover Lee and Dorothy Overton Abernathy, and her brother, Grover Lee Abernathy Jr. Gloria is survived by her husband of 57 years, C. Douglas Cliborne; daughter, Wendy Rose (David); grandson, Grayson Rose; and granddaughter, Berkley Rose, all of McKenney; brother, Wilson Abernathy (Joan); sister, Pam Buyalos (James); sister-in-law, Joyce G. Abernathy of Wilsons, VA; and several nieces and nephews. Gloria graduated from Sunnyside High School and began work at Sears in the credit department.... Douglas Cliborne; daughter, Wendy Rose (David); grandson, Grayson Rose; and granddaughter, Berkley Rose, all of McKenney; brother, Wilson Abernathy (Joan); sister, Pam Buyalos (James); sister-in-law, Joyce G. Abernathy of Wilsons, VA; and several nieces and nephews. Gloria graduated from Sunnyside High School and began work at Sears in the credit department. Later, she worked at Central State Hospital, and during her husband's military service in Maryland, Gloria worked at Fairchild Heller Space and Aeronautics in Gaithersburg, Maryland. After her husband's deployment to Vietnam, she returned home to work at Central State and Hiram W. Davis Hospital for over fifty years until her retirement. She was a very active member of her church, Sharon Baptist. Gloria's passion was helping others, and she loved her family and friends dearly. The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 P.M., Sunday, at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd., Blackstone, VA 23824. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, May 24th, in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, 4111 Darvills Road, Blackstone, VA 23824. Rev. Chris Hillman will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sharon Baptist Church, c/o Ed Helton 2312 Springston Rd., Wilsons, VA 23984.
