DeMars, 81, of 321 Butler St., St. Matthews, died Monday, April 28, 2003, at The Regional Medical Center in the loving arms of her family. The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2 at West End Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas B. Huggins officiating. Active pallbearers will be Rion DeMars, Rhett DeMars, Rushton DeMars, John Ziebell, Gene Paulling Jr., Ben Paulling, John McLauchlin and Chris Monson. Mrs. DeMars was born in St. Matthews, a daughter of the late Marion Paulling and Roberta Mack Paulling. She attended Winthrop College and was a graduate of the Business School in Orangeburg. Mrs. DeMars was retired from the Calhoun County Public Schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was the widow of John Warning DeMars. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, John Waring (Poochie) (Alice) DeMars Jr., St. Matthews, Robbie Marion (Jean) DeMars, Travelers Rest; daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Charles (Kaye) Pegram, Charleston; sister, Mrs. Catherine P. Smoak, Columbia; seven grandchildren, Mimsy DeMars, Travelers Rest, Kristi McLauchlin, St. Matthews, John and Caitlin Ziebell, Charleston, Rion, Rhett, and Rushton Mars, Travelers Rest; great-grandson, John Carter McLauchlin, St. Matthews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. John Waring (Poochie) (Alice) DeMars, 114 Lands End, St. Matthews. At other times friends may call at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home of Orangeburg. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 348, St. Matthews, SC 29135.
