She was the daughter of James Crockett and Laura Edwards Guynn. She grew up on the family farm and was educated in the public schools of Carroll County. She was a proud graduate of the College of William and Mary with a B.A. in English. Crockett Guynn & Lura Maud Edwards GUYNN, Miss Golda Pearl, a lifelong resident of Carroll County, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 9, 1996, at her home in Hillsville. She was the daughter of James Crockett and Laura Edwards Guynn. She grew up on the family farm and was educated in the public schools of Carroll County. She was a proud graduate of the College of William and Mary with a B.A. in English. Some years later she took her M.A. in English from Columbia University, and, much to the surprise of most who knew her, thoroughly enjoyed her time in New York City. She taught for almost 50 years in the Carroll County school System. For most of that time, she taught senior English at Hillsville High School and, later, at Carroll County High School. Her high standards caused many students to complain when they took her courses, but, in later years, those same students often expressed their particular appreciation for the quality of her teaching. Indeed, she rarely went out without meeting a former student or two, and their affectionate greetings meant a great deal to her. She was an active member of the Colonial Dames, the D.A.R., Delta Kappa Gamma, Eastern Star, the Retired Teachers Association and various local and state teachers organizations, and the United Methodist Women. She was for many years th e Treasurer and main stay of the Worrell Guynn Cemetery Association, and worked diligently to maintain and improve the cemetery. Each June on decoration day, she spent the entire day at the cemetery, greeting her friends and reminding them that it was time once again to contribute to the upkeep. She was the last member of her generation of the family and will be sadly missed by all the family. She is survived by one nephew, Gary A. Guynn of Galax; and three nieces, Ann Guynn Gillis of Ward, Colo., Jeanne Guynn Lewis of Buies Creek, N.C., and Beth Guynn of Hillsville. Services will be held at Vaughn Guynn McGrady Chapel in Hillsville on Wednesday, March 13, 1996, at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at the Worrell Guynn Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Worrell Guynn Cemetery, c/o Gary Guynn, P.O.
