She was born in Ridgeway (Harrison Co.), Missouri on January 25, 1909, to Ruben Ellis and Mattie Ellen Ruff. She married James John Crofton in Montevideo, Minnesota on April 11, 1928. They moved to Washington state, where they settled in Granger and later moved to Yakima. She move to Newport two years ago. She enjoyed cooking for the holidays, playing cards and bingo. She volunteered at the Salvation Army Meal Program for the Yakima senior citizens, was a member of RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) for over 10 years, and was a member of the Daisy Grandmother Club and a card playing club. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, James Jr. and Roberta Crofton of Weston and George and Mary Crofton of Yakima, Washington; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Dean Carpenter of Newport; a sister, Mable; half-sisters Anne, Audie and Fran; half-brothers Bob and Hank; grandchildren Sally, Suzi, Jeff, Tamera, Peter, Paul, Josh, Kelly, Joe and Kyle; great-grandchildren Katie, Jessie and Nathaniel; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; a brother, Carl; a sister, Beulah; a half-sister, Fran; and half-brothers, Dick, Harold, Don and George. A memorial service will be held April 7, in Yakima, Washington.
