Death was believed to have been caused by botulism, a violent poisoning, although several of the physicians consulting in the case were apparently baffled by the strange malady. Her husband also is in the hospital, stricken with the same disease. His condition is critical. Both Mr. and Mrs. Davis, it was learned, had been feeling ill for several days but they did not consult a physician until Sunday night when Mrs Davis condition became worse. She and her husband were taken to the hospital early Monday morning. Source of the infection has not been determined with Davis too ill to consult about what he ane his wife might have eaten to cause the violent poisoning. The body is being held at the Wagler Funeral home in Bloomfield pending the completion of funeral arrangements. Surviving Mrs. Davis are her husband; an infant son, and her mother, Mrs Gilbert More, who lives near the Davis home. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FUNERAL HELD FOR TRAGEDY VICTIM AT UNIONVILLE Mrs. Don Davis is Laid to Rest in Wesley Chapel Cemetery; Many Friends Mourn The funeral of Mrs. Don Davis, of Unionville, was held at the family home, seven miles north of Unionville, Thursday at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Fred Cowles of Ottumwa, who was a former neighbor boy of the deceased. The large country home was filled with hundreds of friends filled the shaded lawn. The body was laid to rest in Wesley Chapel cemetery where her father and grandparents are buried. The husband is critically ill in the Ottumwa hospital. Grave fears are held for his recovery. The only child, a baby son, Jackie Dean, born April 6 is being cared for by Mrs. Nelle More and Mrs. May Hopkins, mother and sister of the deceased. Those from town attending the service were, P. E. More, a cousin of the deceased lady, Miss Lulu Koehler, Mrs. Laura Bailey and Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Dukes. Tragedy seems to stalk the Davis family. Relatives en route here from Audubon to attend the funeral suffered an automobile accident and three lives were taken, namely: Mr. Davis' brother's son, his mother's brother and his wife. The entire community is bowed with grief and extend deepest sympathy to the bereaved ones. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Goldie Marie More Davis - Goldie Marie More was born at Unionville, IA on March 10, 1914 and passed away at the Ottumwa hospital at Ottumwa, IA on Monday, August 25, 1941 at the age of 27 years, five month and 15 days. Marie was the daughter of Mrs Gilbert More of Unionville, IA and was united in marriage to Donald C. Davis on May 7, 1938, and to this union a son was born on April 6, 1941, Jackie Dean. Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband and one child, her mother Mrs. Gilbert More one sister, Mae Hopkins, and one brother Sam at home: also one brother, Chester More, of Unionville, IA one nephew, Elmer Lee, besides many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Mr. Gilbert More who passed away on Nov. 12 1930. Marie was a member of the Baptist church of Unionville, Iowa having joined there in 1933 under the leadership of the Van Gundy Gospel Workers. As a housewife she was devoted to her family and home, and as a sister was ready always to help in time of need. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, and her passing will leave a vacancy none other can fill. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday, August 28, at 2 p. m. with the Rev F. H. Cowles of Ottumwa officiating. Interment was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
