Nelson, 94, of Hartington died on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at the Golden Living Center. Memorials are preferred to the First Congregational United Church of Christ. ——— Goldie was born on July 6, 1915, at Neligh to Frank and Caroline (Waterman) Wagner. She grew up in Neligh and graduated from Neligh High school in 1933. She worked in a federal farm program office in Neligh after graduation. It was there that she met Vernon Nelson who was one of her co-workers. They were married on Nov. 9, 1938, at Plainview, and Goldie continued to work in Neligh until Vernon took a job in Burwell. Their daughter, Sandra, was born there and an infant son died shortly after his birth in 1941. When Vernon entered the Air Force in 1945, the family moved to Belleville, Ill. After the war they made their home in Norfolk and Neligh. Their daughter, Cecelia, was born in Norfolk, and the family moved to Hartington in 1948. Goldie worked for Consumers Public Power while her daughters were in school and after Vernon's death on Dec. 7, 1961, she began to work for the Federal Land Bank as the office manager. She retired in 1980. She moved to the Golden Living Community in Hartington in 2007. Goldie was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and the various women's organization within the church, Hartington Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the Hartington Country Club. She enjoyed being with her family, taking care of her home and flowers and enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. Goldie is survived by a daughter, Sandra Rasmussen and her husband, Dennis, their daughter, Ann Rasmussen, and their son, Kent Rasmussen and his wife, Sue Nechanichy, all of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter, Cecelia Boone and her daughter, Sandra Boone, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; a great-grandson, Jack Rasmussen (son of Kent Rasmussen and Sue Nechanichy); a sister, Marian Moore of Sahuarita, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Helen Nelson of Plainview, and Goldie's nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon at the age of 48, an infant son, a son-in-law, David Boone, four sisters and a brother. Her grandson, Kent Rasmussen, will be a pallbearer.
