Memorials may be made to the Elks children's charity or charity of choice in his memory. Gordon A. Coyier was born May 11, 1920, in Clear Lake, Iowa, to Guy Alvin Coyier and Viola Lundy Coyier. Gordon A. Coyier was united in marriage to Betty L. West on Sept. 3, 1978, in Reno, Nevada. Gordon grew up in Clear Lake, Iowa. His mother died in 1926 and he was raised by Herbert and Flora Lundy. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1940. While he was in high school, he played football and worked as a lifeguard. He had been a bouncer at ``The Surf.'' He worked in Baltimore, Maryland, for an aircraft manufacturing company, then joined the United States Army Corps during World War II and stayed in the service until 1960. He lived in Colorado and worked for the U.S. Geological Survey Department and moved to Sequim, Wash., in 1982. He worked with the U.S. Geological survey team at Mount St. Helens at the time of the eruption. He was a photographer and a pilot. He was a charter member of Sequims Elks Lodge #2642. He belonged to the Civil Air Patrol. Survivors include his wife, Betty Coyier of Sequim, Washington; one son, Gordon A. Coyier of Youngstown, Ohio; stepsons, Ronald and Gerald West, both of Sequim, Wash.; daughters, Cindy Fairfield-Smith of Silverthorne, Colo., and Kim Coyier of Port Orchard, Wash.; stepdaughter, Cynthia K. West of Pascadero, Calif.; a brother, Wayne Coyier of Clear Lake, Iowa; a sister, Vivian Greenzwdig of Charles City, Iowa; six grandchildren; three stepgranddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David S. Coyier.
