Born In Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 5, 1917. He served In the Second World War In Holland and France. He apprenticed for a plumber In Ponoka for three years and then he moved to Bentley. In 1947 he was united in marriage to Helen Cabelka. In 1951 Gordon and his father started their business, Bentley Plumbing, in the building now known as the Bentley Cycle and Repair. In the mid 1960s Gordon sold his plumbing business and In 1968 moved from town to the farm, where his daughter Sharon and her family now live. He enjoyed the farming life, and was proud of his Murray Grey Cattle. After Gordon left the farm each year, Including this year, he would Fire Up his 97, and go out to work in the field. Gordon enjoyed curling at the Bentley Rink. He was an active member of the Bentley Royal Canadian Legion and proud of his carpentry. Camping, fishing and playing cards were the love of his life. He taught his grandsons Michael and Wade how to fillet a fish and was so proud when they learned so well. The boys loved to help grandpa put the boat In the water. Gordon was proud of his whole family. He didn't like anyone making a fuss over anything and liked the simple things In life. The newest member of the family was Clinton, someone to finally carry on the family name. Gordon Is survived by his loving wife Helen, his children Ken and Teresa Beranek, Gerry and Sharon McGrindle, John and Glenda van Gaal, son-in-law Denny Haarstad, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, four sisters Vi and George Archibald of Ponoka, Lorna Hug of Lacombe, Norma and Ron Traudt of Red Deer, Elaine and Norman Void of Ponoka; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Pat Haarstad in 1986. Funeral Services will be held from the Bentley Christian Centre on Monday June 26, 1995 at 4:30 p.m.
