"Gordy" Kucera, 87, of Omaha, formerly of Schuyler, will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Robert Bellamine Catholic Church, 119th and Pacific streets, Omaha. He died Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at Gretna Living Center. He was born July 1, 1918, in Ithaca to Edward and Emma (Cuda) Kucera. He graduated from Wahoo High School at age 15. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in England and France. He married Dorothy M. Nault on June 20, 1946, in Fremont. They lived in Prague where he ran a produce stand before entering the funeral profession. In 1963, they moved to Schuyler, where he ran Kucera Funeral Chapel as well as Kucera Funeral Home of Prague and Valparaiso. He received a 50-year award from the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association in 2003. Survivors include: his wife; five sons, Gary (and wife, Ruth) Kucera and Terry (and wife, Linda) Kucera of Omaha, Doug (and wife, Teresa) Kucera of Grand Island, Jeff (and wife, Dorothy) Kucera of Hawthorn Woods, Ill., and Mark (and wife, Carol) Kucera of Omaha; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother and a granddaughter. Visitation will be from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday with a 7 p.m. wake service, all at Heafey-Heafey-Hoffman-Dvorak and Cutler West Center Chapel, 7805 West Center Road, in Omaha. A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Schuyler Cemetery with the Rev. Gerald Leise officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Hespen-Mitchell Post 4836 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and McLeod Post 47 of the American Legion.
