Memorials Services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home . Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial will follow at Elba Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Elba Cemetery. Gordon was born on July 28, 1936 in Elba son of Hank and Katherine (Spilinek) Svoboda Sr. He received his education from Elba High School. On May 24, 1954, Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Navy stationed on the U.S.S. Montrose, until his honorable discharge on July 19, 1957. Gordon married Judith “Judy” Freeman on March 12, 1958. The couple followed Gordon's job to Lincoln, Kearney, Hooper, Humphrey and lastly, Grand Island. Gordon taught Industrial Arts at Walnut Junior High School for several years and was also the 8th grade basketball coach. Gordon's grandkids and great grandkids were his pride and joy. He loved to attend all of their events and include them in his many projects. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Gordon and Judy loved to go on buying trips searching for antiques to sell in their antique shop and numerous flee markets. Gordon was always looking for the next bargain at local garage sales. He enjoyed his pets, his dog Luke holding a special place. Gordon’s family and friends will cherish his easy smile and humor. He is survived by his children, Gordon A. (Nancy) Svoboda of Grand Island and Mary (Jim) Harder of Grand Island; beloved Papa to: James Harder and fiancé Katie Hayden, Matthew Harder, Amy (Chris) Peterson, Paul Svoboda, Abby Svoboda and fiancé Colby Carley, and Kourtney Maxon; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Lauren, Macy, Logan and Sienna; brother, Hank and his wife Jackie Svoboda of Corpus Cristi, TX; special niece, Kim Clark of Rapid City, SD, along with many extended family and friends. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy; and infant sister, Charlotte Svoboda.
