Description	:	Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 29, from the Slininger Chapel in Jefferson for Gordon H. Carl, 59, Paton postmaster for over 30 years. Rev. Harold E. Schirm, minister of Paton United Methodist Church, officiated. Mrs. Ernest Carlson was organist. Casket bearers were Eldon Blanshan, Claude Neiderheiser, Herbert Wipperman, Kermit Riedesel, Charles Ott, and Ed Hadden. Interment was in Paton Twp Cemetery. Gordon Harris Carl, son of Lewis And Jessie (Harris) Carl, was born June 17, 1911, at Paton, Iowa where he attended school and graduated in 1929 from Paton Consolidated School. He attended Iowa State University for two years and then was a postal clerk in Paton for eight years before being appointed as postmaster by the President in 1939. He has since served in that capacity. On June 17, 1938, Gordon was married to Berea Sill at Paton. They had three children: Donea, Bary and Bryce. The family made their home in Paton. Mr. Carl served during World War II in the U. S. Navy from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Post at Paton, the National Postmasters Association, Iowa League of Postmasters and Tri-County Postmasters. Gordon died at his home on August 25, at the age of 59. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George, in infancy, and one sister, Fanny. Survivors are his wife, Berea; daughters: Donea (Mrs. Wm Shane, Jr.) of Albuquerque, NM; and Bryce (Mrs. Ted Bear) of Des Moines; son Bary of Marshalltown; five grandchildren: Craig, Christopher, Todd, Bradley, and Angela; one brother Beryl Carl of Greeley, CO.
