Description	:	Gordon Larsen, 82 of Pierre died on Sunday, August 19. Gordon Larsen was born in Omaha, Nebraska on July 26, 1925. He was one of five children born to William and Johanna Larsen. His father died when Gordon was 10 years old. His mother raised the five children. He served in the Pacific Theatre until the end of World War II. Gordon... Read More	Gordon Larsen, 82 of Pierre died on Sunday, August 19. Gordon Larsen was born in Omaha, Nebraska on July 26, 1925. He was one of five children born to William and Johanna Larsen. His father died when Gordon was 10 years old. His mother raised the five children. Gordon attended school in Omaha and left high school to volunteer for Military Service during WW II, joining the US Marines. Gordon enlisted in the Marine Corps in Des Moines, Iowa on August 5, 1942. He served in the Pacific Theatre until the end of World War II. Gordon was honored to be included in Tom Brokaw's book, The Greatest Generation. Gordon returned to Omaha after the war working as a furnace repairman during the day and attending night school earning his GED. He eventually went to work for the Corps of Engineers as a hydroelectric dam operator. He worked at various dams on the Missouri River. He met his wife, Amelia, on the job in Omaha. They married in Columbus, Nebraska on May 21, 1949. They moved to Pickstown, SD and began to raise their children. In 1956 they moved their family to Yankton, SD where Gordon worked at Gavins Point Dam and their sixth child was born. He also enjoyed numerous hunting and fishing trips with family and friends. The family always raised a large garden and various types of fruit which they canned and froze for winter. In 1970, Gordon transferred to Little Goose Dam on the Snake River in Washington State. They lived in the small town of Starbuck and Gordon served as the town marshal while continuing to work for the Corps of Engineers. Gordon retired in 1978. He and Amelia built their dream home on a mountain top overlooking Dworshak Dam on the Clearwater River in Orofino, Idaho. They moved to Pierre, SD in October of 2005 to live closer to family. Survivors include wife, Amelia, Pierre; sons Gilbert (Laurie) Larsen, Bloomfield, Nebraska; Gordon Larsen , Fort Pierre, SD; Jim (Anita) Larsen, Pierre, SD; William (Shelly) Larsen, Lewiston, Idaho; daughter Rose Anderson, Pierre, SD. 25 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gilbert, Jim, and Bill, sister Dorothy, daughter Kathy Sherman, and grandson Shane. Mass of Christen Burial was held onAugust 23 at St. John's Catholic Church in Ft. Pierre with Father Brian Christensen officiating. Burial is at Scotty Philip Cemetery. Source: published obituary
