Mr. Day was born Jan. 1, 1915, in Sweetland Township, Muscatine, the son of Goldsmith Oliver and Grace Mae Romig Day. He married Ruth Evelyn Holtz on March 12, 1939, at the home of her parents. She preceded him in death in March 2003. He was a lifelong resident of Muscatine County and was involved in many community activities. He was a member of Sweetland United Methodist Church since 1926. He farmed in Sweetland Township until 1969. He then purchased the John Deere dealership which he ran for a number of years. He was past president of Muscatine County Farm Bureau, served on the Farm Service Board and was a 4-H leader. He had served as a trustee of Unity Hospital, formerly Muscatine General Hospital, and was a board member of Central State Bank from 1969-99. He was a member of Iowa Masonic Lodge No. 2, Davenport Consistory and Kaaba Shrine. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Williams and husband Bill of Solon; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Williams of Minneapolis, Paul Williams and wife Tracy of Lake Zurich, Ill. and Laura Williams of Chicago; three great-grand-children, Alex, Brady and Chelsea Williams; and a nephew, Gary McCullough of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two sisters.
