He died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the Norfolk Veterans Home. ——— He was born April 28, 1930, to Clyde R. and Olive Mae (Martin) Elkins in Holt County. He graduated from O’Neill High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Air Force entering Dec. 26, 1951, to Dec. 23, 1955. He married Shirley LaJune Roth April 12, 1952, in Biloxi, Miss. They moved to Norfolk in 1955 where he owned and operated the NewWay Cleaners until he retired at the age of 59. He served as president of the Norfolk Jaycees from 1962 until 1963. He was a longtime member of the Norfolk Country Club. He refereed high school football and basketball for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, golfing, horse races and all sports. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters Sheryl Kyriss and her son, Ryan of Norfolk, Carol Zoubek and her husband, Roger, and their children, Cassie and Michael, Tamie Sovereign and her husband, Steve, and their children, Katie Baldwin and her husband, Jesse, Jill and Libby, Annette Gubbels and her husband, Duane, and their children, Rachel, Gabe and Leah; two great-grandchildren, Tyaira and Brennan; and a brother, Rolland and his wife, Bonnie Elkins of Westcliffe, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Vernon, Donald, Eldon, Stanley and Harold; three sisters, Nadine, Arlene and Bernadine.
