He attended rural grade school at the Horn School and later at Burke Public School. In 1923 the family moved from the farm to Gregory where “Gordy” graduated from Gregory High School in 1931. While in high school he worked in the Fran Harrison Bakery in Gregory. “Gordy” and Margaret Iberg were married in July of 1936 and they operated a gas station for George Scholl where the pheasant sculpture now stands. They were the parents of twin sons: Terry and Larry and one daughter, Janice. “Gordy” and Ferd Keith formed a partnership in the early 40’s calling themselves Keith and Schlaht Produce, a business relationship that lasted over 40 years. The business was located in the old National Bank building which was moved just east of the present Times-Advocate building. They bought cream, eggs and chickens from the farmers. As that market began to change they sold commercial feed for livestock, buying train car lots and selling direct off the rail dock. They both retired in the early 1970’s. Hi wife “Marge” died in 1963 and “Gordy” had lived alone since that time. “Gordy” was active in the community serving as a fireman for many years. He and his entire family were members of the Congregational Church where “Gordy” served on the board for many years. He loved to hunt and there were few peers who could better his accuracy in downing pheasants. He enjoyed all sports and watching his boys participate in athletics. He also liked fishing and in later years took up golf, horseshoes and coffee with friends at local cafes. Gordon died on February 25, 1999 in Omaha while visiting his family. His wife and his parents preceded him in death.
