Born September 1, 1923 in Greenfield, Virginia he was a son of the late Sidney Gordon Ferguson and Venie K. Ferguson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Mantiply Ferguson and his second wife, Doris C. Ferguson; his son, Mitchell W. Ferguson, Sr.; one brother, William S. Read More	Gordon Wayne Ferguson, 94, of Lowesville died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at his daughter's residence. Born September 1, 1923 in Greenfield, Virginia he was a son of the late Sidney Gordon Ferguson and Venie K. Ferguson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Mantiply Ferguson and his second wife, Doris C. Ferguson; his son, Mitchell W. Ferguson, Sr.; one brother, William S. Ferguson and three sisters, Beatrice F. Adamson, Mary F. Campbell and Rebecca Finnegan. He was a member of Central Baptist Church for 69 years where he served as clerk, youth leader, Deacon and Trustee. He was a Charter Member of Piney River Volunteer Fire Department since July, 1953. He served as Chief, Assistant Chief and many other positions within the Fire Department including being very instrumental in the annual "Chitterling Dinner". He was so proud of the Fire Department and the young men that are involved in the operation of the Department today. He was a World War II Army Veteran, an Assistant Superintendent with American Cyanamid Company before their closing in 1971, retired manager with International Minerals and Chemical Corporation; a member of VFW Post #7701 and served as Chaplain for many years and after retirement he loved being a self employed farmer. Dad's greatest accomplishments in life did not come easy. He worked hard from a young age, and was always willing to help others. He was the "rock" of our family and we always looked to him for guidance and support. Dad was truly a Christian man and exemplified that in his daily life. He will truly be missed. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gwendolyn Ferguson Gordon and Newton, his sister, Florence F. Dawson; daughter-in-law, Nancy Williams (Richard); two sister-in-laws, Carol C. Ferguson and Janet Williams; three brother-in-laws, Charles M. Mantiply, Steve Coffey (Susan) and John Coffey (Janey); five grandchildren; Emily Ferguson Orme (Josh), Mitchell W. Ferguson, Jr. (Nikki), Ellen Ferguson Wilmer (Chris), John N. Gordon, IV (Tiffany) and Elizabeth Gordon Hurt (Ben); nine great-grandchildren; Jacob, Kyle and Peyton Orme, Cole, Tripp and Beau Ferguson, Morgan Wilmer, McKinley Hurt and Abigail Gordon; his step-children, Philip Camden, Jr. (Wanda), Jennifer White (Larry) and Angela Camden; step-grandson, Philip Camden, III (Mary Elizabeth) and step-great-grandchildren, Rebekah and William Camden as well as a host of nieces and nephews. We would like to thank Dad's sitter, Annie Mae Rose for her unconditional love and support. Also, we would like to thank Centra Hospice Debra Lynch and Carla Richeson. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Central Baptist Church in Lowesville with Pastor Gary Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Jonesboro Cemetery in Roseland. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 16 of Lynchburg. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the church. Arrangements by Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel of Lovingston (434-263-4097). "TO GOD BE THE GLORY"
