Williamsburg Journal Tribune - Thursday, November 20, 1947 - Funeral services for Gottlieb Keller of Denison formerly of Pilot township, were held at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church in Pilot on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. E. Jasmann in charge. He was assisted by Rev. E. Mieier of the Ohio church. Words o£ comfort were taken from St. John, "Let not your heart be troubled" and from the 23rd Psalm. "Asleep in Jesus" and "Face to Face" were sung as duets by Mrs. Russell Davis and Mrs. Charles Goettsch with Mrs. Chas. Smith as accompanist. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Henry Brown, Mrs. E. Jasmann and Miss Minnie Furler. Pallbearers were six nephewszz: Marvin Taylor, Roy Taylor, William Taylor, Charles Schaffner, Lloyd Schaffner and John Wood. Interment was in Zion Reformed cemetery in the family lot in accordance with Mr. Kahler's request. Mr. Kahler was born August 12, 1869 in Berne, Switzerland, a son of Jacob and Marie Keller. At the age of two years, he came to America with his parents. He grew to manhood in Iowa County and attended the rural schools. He was a member of the Zion Reformed church. Mr. Kahler was married to Nellie Schaffner in 1893 and she was called in death on July 20, 1917. On Nov. 21, 1921, he was married to Mrs. Daisy Wright of Denison, in which town they have since lived. He had been in failing health the past two years and died Nov. 13 at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 1 day. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife; four sons: Clarence of Webster, Ralph of Marengo, John of North English and Alva of Deep River; two brothers, Fred of Marengo and Charlie of Cedar Rapids; one stepdaughter and two stepsons; 21 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Four infant sons and his only daughter Mrs Forrest Grim preceded him in death; also two brothers Rudolph and Chris, one sister, Mrs. Peter Faas.
