They had traveled by train from Herrick, South Dakota to Bentley, Alta the end of the rail line at that time. Here the family was met by Dan Schrader driving four horses on a box sleigh. Previously heated big rocks on a bed of straw in the bottom of the sleigh box, plus plenty of woolen quilts to cover with, kept everyone cozy enroute from Bentley. The temperature was a frigid 40� be- low zero. They arrived safely at the vacant Lang- muir homestead house, where they took up resi- dence until spring. In April of 1920 the Odenbach family got pos- session of their farm, which they had previously purchased, two miles north and one-half mile west of Rimbey. There was lots of hard work to be done on a mixed-farm in those days. Modern conve- niences were few and far between. Everyone worked very hard, but there was always time for recreation, visiting neighbors and attending com- munity events. Equipment for recreation was most- ly home made and inexpensive, but was enjoyed just as much as the costly equipment needed in modern times. In 1947 they sold the family farm and held a farm auction sale. They had previously bought a small acreage just south of Rimbey and had built a home on it. Gottlieb, Annie, Theodore and Eva lived here in the ensuing years. The rest of the family had married and were on their own. In June 1955 Gottlieb and Annie passed a big milestone in their lives. It was their "Golden Wed- ding Anniversary". The family held open house for friends and relatives at their home acreage. This was a significant event in their lives. Gottlieb passed away in 1963, his wife Annie in 1970, Eva in 1976 and Joseph in 1981 in Paradise California, where he and his wife Marjory (Nee Evernden) had lived for many years. William passed away in 1982 in Edmonton. Ethel and her husband, David Bruce, live on a farm in Russell, Manitoba. Alan and his wife, Marge, live in Milton, Ontario.
