Read More	History of Moniteau County, Missouri Gotlieb Sperber, a prosperous farmer of Linn Township, Moniteau County, was born in Germany in 1833, and is the son of Gotlieb C and Mary Sperber, also natives of Germany. The family, consisting of the parents, four daughters and one son, immigrated to America when the latter was but one and a half years old; the voyage was one of thirteen weeks to New Orleans, from which place they went by boat to Jefferson City, where they remained several years engaged in farming. The father was a music teacher in his native country and brought all his instruments with him to America. From Jefferson City, the family moved to Moniteau County, near where our subject now lives, where the father died July 12, 1883 at the age of Seventy-seven; the mother died in 1849. Both were members of the Lutheran Church and of their five children, but two are living; Gotlieb and Louisa Wolfrom, the latter living near California, Mo. The educational advantages of Gotlieb Sperber were those of the common schools only, and at the age of twenty-one he worked the home farm on shares. In 1854, his father gave him a farm, upon which he lived fourteen years, when he sold out and moved to a place near California, Mo., where he engaged in farming until 1878, in the latter year locating on his present place in Linn Township, which is one of the finest farms in the vicinity. Mr Sperber married Wilhelmina Scholle, who was born in Germany in 1835, and when eighteen years old came to this country with her parents, Gotlieb and Christina Scholle, who settled near Sandy Hook, Linn Township. The mother died in 1861, at the age of fifty-two years, and the father in 1878, aged seventy-one; both were members of the Lutheran Church, and of their six children, five are living. Eight children have been born to Mr and Mrs Sperber: John, Gotlieb, William, Nicholas, Mary, Gustave, Theodore and an infant, deceased. Our subject and his wife are active members of the Lutheran Church. Mr Sperber takes great interest in school work and is giving his children the advantage of an education.
