Davis was born April 7, 1878, at Lucky Valley, Iowa, and died at her home in Bancroft, South Dakota, Monday, July 11, 1927, at 8 p.m. She was 49 years, 3 months and 4 days of age. Death was due to cancer of the stomach. Grace was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Davis, pioneer residents of this community, who preceded their daughter in death. On February 25, 1902, she married D.D. Drake at Anthon. He was a local prominent farmer. The union was a happy one and a home that was about two miles west of Anthon where they lived for many years. Seventeen years ago the Drake family moved to a farm near Bancroft, South Dakota, where they have since resided. Their home was blessed with seven children. Orval passed away in infancy. Those who survive with her husband are Mrs. Alma Christrom of Bancroft; Lois 18 years and Opal 7 years; three sons, Harvey 22 years; Willis 11 years and Darrell 9 years, at home. Mrs. Drake, while early in life became a member of the Lucky Valley Methodist Church and was ever a faithful worker for Christ. In her home at Bancroft she kept busy with church activities and was always a willing worker. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Royal Neighbors lodges. Besides her husband and children she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. A.J. Lyons of Moville, and Mrs. O.R. Renneker of Cavour, South Dakota; two half-sisters, Mrs. A.E. Copenhaver of Bronson and Mrs. Clara Gothier of Anthon; two brothers, Sylvester Davis of Lodi, California, and Melvin Davis of Slayter, Minnesota; one half brother, Oney Davis of Warren, Montana, and numerous other relatives and true friends. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Bancroft, South Dakota. Services at Anthon were held in the Methodist Church on Friday at 2 p.m. in charge of the pastor, Rev. L.E. Wardle. Pallbearers were nephews: Frank C. Gothier, Ed Gothier, Jess Gothier, Mark Copenhaver, Mervin Copenhaver and Walter Copenhaver. burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery by the graves of her parents and son.
