JOHN HIMES DIES SATURDAY NIGHT AT HOSPITAL Services for Well Known Woman Held Tuesday Mrs. Grace Anna Himes, 56, well known resident of the Monon community, expired at the St. Elizabeth hospital, Lafayette at 8:15 o'clock Saturday evening. Monday morning of last week the Monon lady had fallen in the yard of her farm home east of town, fracturing her right hip. Since no one else was around the house at that time, Mrs. Himes managed to get into a sunny spot in the yard and lay there, suffering from the cold, for nearly an hour before the mailman found her. She was removed to the St. Elizabeth hospital and the following day submitted to surgery where a pin was put in place to hold the broken bone together. She suffered from a diabetic condition and had not been too well for some time. She was born Feb. 19, 1896, at Dwight, Ill., the daughter of William and Ellen (Boulle) Belswanger, and was married to John F. Himes on April 22, 1918, the ceremony taking place in Francesville. The couple resided north of the Chapel church for ten years and since 1939 had lived at the present farm home east of Monon, a half mile west of the river. Mrs. Himes was a member of the Chapel Methodist church, the Ladies Aid of both the Chapel and the Bedford Presbyterian churches, and of the American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving with the husband are a son, John W. of Ft. Wayne; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Duvall of Idaville, Elsie Himes of Ft. Wayne, Mrs. Betty Rinker of Kentland, and Maxine Himes, a student at Indiana University at Bloomington; the mother, Mrs. William Belswanger of Francesville; four brothers, Robert Belswanger of Marion, Wis., and Lawrence, Jessie and Alfred of Francesville; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Wendt, Mrs. Anna Wendt, and Edna Belswanger, all of Francesville; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Monon Methodist church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with the Nickler Funeral Home in charge and the Rev. Paul Baker, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. George Myers of the Presbyterian church. Interment was in the White Post Cemetery northeast of Francesville.
