Read More	The Fort Madison Weekly Democrat, 15 February, 1888, carried the following story: FATAL ACCIDENT Our citizens will learn with great regret the sad and sudden death of our esteemed and old resident, Mrs. John Koch. who was fatally injured about noon (11 February 1888) and died Sunday night. Mr and Mrs Koch, one daughter, two sons, and a neighbor rode up to the city to church and on their return, just before they reached the Fair Ground bridge, which is near their home, the neck yoke slipped off the end of the tongue of the wagon, which in falling to the ground startled the horses so that the end of the pole striking the ground threw the wagon over. Mrs Koch fell on her head and the scalp was cut through. She was taken home and surgical assistance called. At first it was thought that the hurt was not very serious but after a few hours Mrs K became comatose and died at about 2:00 in the night. There was hemorhage inside the skull, probably from fracture of the inner table, as there was no external fracture. None of the others were seriously hurt. She was an excellent woman, known and respected by all our citizens and loved by many. She will be missed and mourned by all. .......................... Crescenia Hofbauer was born 15 December, 1831 at Uttenweller, Wuertemberg, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gustavus Hofbauer (from her Obituary in the Fort Madison (Iowa) Weekly Democrat. February 22, 1888). Also from her obituary is the information that at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in June, 1854, Crescenia was married to Johann Koch (born 12 January, 1828 (ab.) in Wuertemberg County, Germany). .............................. John and Grace had the following children: John, Catherine, Elizabeth, Mary, Teresa, Grace, Joseph, William, and Albert.
