She died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo. Grace Helms was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Palmyra. She grew up on a farm there and attended country school. Hanke, 75, of Wahoo, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Covenant Church in Swedeburg. She died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo. Grace Helms was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Palmyra. She grew up on a farm there and attended country school. She graduated from Bennet High School in 1942. She moved to Lincoln where she was employed by Gooch Mills. She married Kenneth Hanke Sept. 28, 1946, in Kansas. The couple lived in Lincoln until they moved to a farm south of Wahoo in 1948, where they farmed. She moved to the Saunders County Care Center in 1995. She was a member of the Covenant Church and a life member of American Legion Auxillary No. 244. Survivors include: her husband; a son, Gary (and wife, Nancy) Hanke of Wahoo; a daughter, Carolyn (Mrs. Donald) Fisher of Wahoo; three sisters, Alice Burdwood of Scarborugh, Maine, Irene (Mrs. Marvin) Hansen of Ceresco, and Ruth Bool of Lincoln; two sisters-in law, Dede Helms of Lincoln, and Ila Helms of Pawnee City and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. The Rev. Richard Olson will officiate Tuesday's service. Visitation is 2-7 p.m. Monday at Pruss Funeral Home in Wahoo with family receiving friends from 5-7. Visitation continues one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo. Memorials have been established to the church, Saunders County Hospise and the Wahoo Senior Citizens Center.
