Johnson, Methodist minister and his wife, and thus grew up in a fine Christian home, the influence of which was manifest throughout her entire life. Read More	From Nevada Journal September 28, 1954 Grace Johnson Benjamin was a native of Illinois, being born in that state November 18, 1875, a daughter of J. F. Johnson, Methodist minister and his wife, and thus grew up in a fine Christian home, the influence of which was manifest throughout her entire life. Her father was later pastor of churches in central and western Kansas, and on January 15, 1896, at Wakeeney, Kansas, she was united in marriage to George A. Benjamin, also a native of Illinois, who had been in Kansas before coming to Nevada and with his brother, the late O. J. Benjamin, established the Nevada Journal at its publishers. Coming in Nevada as a young bride, Mrs. Benjamin was during the early years associated with the Journal staff as a very efficient hand compositor and proof reader. With her husband, she became a member of Central Presbyterian church in which, during her active years she worked zealously in all its departments. She had been president of the Presbyterian Ladies Aid, was active in the Sunday School ans a teacher and had great interest in the Missionary department of the church. Her "every Sunday" attendance at church services continued until very recently when physical disability made it impossible for her be in her accustomed place. Mrs. Benjamin was a charter member of the Nevada Sorosis club, social and study club, enjoying the association of its members throughout the years. During the years the "City Federation of Women's Clubs" was an astive civic organization in Nevada, Mrs. Benjamin took active part in the projects for the good of the city, one of which was financial support to the building of Nevada's fine public library. She also was a member of Nevada Chapter 196, Order of the Eastern Star for a number of years. Surviving Mrs. Benjamin is the devoted husband of 58 years, two brothers, Ralph Johnson of Lynsburg, Kansas and Robert Johnson of Kansas City Mo., nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
