Description	:	Grace L. (Shipp) Ihde, 101, of Shell Rock, Iowa, formerly of Plainfield and Nashua, died Saturday morning, June 20, 2015, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center of natural causes. Grace was born on December 10, 1913 at home on her parent's farm, rural Plainfield, Iowa, the daughter of Christian and Hatti (Julien) Shipp. Grace attended Smith Grove country school near her home. (Shipp) Ihde, 101, of Shell Rock, Iowa, formerly of Plainfield and Nashua, died Saturday morning, June 20, 2015, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center of natural causes. Grace was born on December 10, 1913 at home on her parent's farm, rural Plainfield, Iowa, the daughter of Christian and Hatti (Julien) Shipp. Grace attended Smith Grove country school near her home. On December 19, 1929, Grace was united in marriage to Marvin W. Ihde in the Baptist Church Parsonage in Plainfield and to this union were born 10 children, three sons and seven daughters. The couple farmed several farms near Horton, moving to a farm in Plainfield in 1946. The couple retired from farming in 1975 and continued to live on the farm. Marvin died on April 11, 1990 and Grace remained on the farm until 2006 when she moved to the Assisted Living in Nashua, Iowa. She moved to the Shell Rock Nursing Home in March of 2015. Grace was a longtime member of the Horton Baptist Church where she taught Adult Sunday School and she was in charge of the Cradle Roll. Grace "Grandma Precious" was known by her family for her famous chicken and noodles, which seemed to be most requested dish. Grace loved to play ROOK, Five Hundred, Marbles, Dominoes and UNO. Grace always made sure there was plenty of food at the table. Grace knew her Bible inside and out, she loved to keep Pastor on their toes by asking questions she already knew. Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight". Grace lived her life for God. Grace was known for her fear of snakes and living on the farm we never lacked for a supply of them. Her son-in-law, Jim Weikert would always tease her by putting rubber snakes by her or doing tricks to make her think he had one. Grace Loved to be around people and family. She always saw the good in them. People would ask her what her secret to living to be over 100 and her answer was "You just keep breathing". She is survived by her 10 children, 7 daughters and 3 sons, Shirley & Darrell Morse of Greenville, South Carolina, Violet & Merle Graeser of Horton, Ilene Weikert of LaPorte City, Geraldine & Melvin Johnston of Nashua, Ronald & JoAnn Ihde of Plainfield, Janet & James Hamacher, Jr. of LaMoille, Illinois, Marlys (William) McGaughey of Lakewood, Colorado, Dennis & Diane Ihde of Appleton, Wisconsin, Cheryl & Barry DeBower of Charles City, Stuart & Penny Ihde of Faribault, Minnesota; 59 grandchildren; 107 great grandchildren and 61 great-great grandchildren. Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Marvin; sisters, Ruth Robinson and Nora White; brother, Charlie Shipp; son-in-law, James Weikert; grandson, Steven Hamacher, granddaughter, Jennifer Fluck; great granddaughter, Danielle Bradley, great grandson, Nehemiah Weikert; great-great granddaughter, Lyric Morrisey, great-great grandson, Gabriel Novak. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Horton Baptist Church rural Plainfield, with Pastors Stephen Moore and Jim Ackerson officiating. Burial will be in the Horton Cemetery. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24th from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home in Waverly and also for an hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Horton Baptist Church.
