Description	:	Grace M. Janike, 107, of Lincoln, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, August 19, 2012. She was born on February 21, 1905 on a farm near Rising City, Nebraska to William and Fannie (Skoda) Janike. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Rising City where she was baptized and confirmed. Grace graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1942 and obtained her Master's degree from Arizona State University in 1957. Janike, 107, of Lincoln, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, August 19, 2012. She was born on February 21, 1905 on a farm near Rising City, Nebraska to William and Fannie (Skoda) Janike. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Rising City where she was baptized and confirmed. Grace graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1942 and obtained her Master's degree from Arizona State University in 1957. Her teaching career took her to positions in Holbrook, McCook, Lincoln, Neb. and Phoenix, Ariz. until her retirement in 1970 after 45 years of dedicated service to children. She was firmly committed to public schools (in her words) "the foundation of democracy." She was an active member of the National Education Association, the International Education Association for Childhood Education, and a life member of the American Association for University Women and Alpha Delta Kappa, honorary fraternity for teachers. Grace is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Helen Glock, Wilma Clark, and brother, Edward Janike. She is survived by six nieces and nephews and many great and great great nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the First English Lutheran Church in Rising City on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ron Lau officiating. Burial of cremains will be in the Circle Mount Cemetery in Rising City. Memorials may be sent to First English Lutheran Church, Rising City, NE 68658. No Visitation/Cremation. Arrangements by Roper and Sons Funeral Services.
