Description	:	Grace Maulsby Avery was born at Perry, Iowa on March 14th, 1890 and departed this life at the Sioux Valley Hospital at Cherokee, Iowa, following a very brief illness, on Sunday morning, April 11th, 1937, at the age of 47 years and 25 days. Grace spent her early days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Maulsby on the farm first at Perry, Iowa, then in the Twin Lakes vicinity. Later they moved to a farm near Newell. Grace spent her early days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Maulsby on the farm first at Perry, Iowa, then in the Twin Lakes vicinity. Later they moved to a farm near Newell. She graduated from the Newell High School in 1910. A year later on June 25th, 1911 she was united in marriage to Elmer C. Avery of Newell. To this union one child, a son, Myron C. Avery of Newell was born. Grace spent two years teaching school, one year before and one year after her marriage. She was an active worker in the community in which she lived and during the trying days of the World War she took and active interest in furthering the work of the cause at home and helping the boys overseas by writing them cheerful and encouraging letters. In the year, 1934, Grace went to stay with her parents in order to help care for her mother who was very ill. On September 1, 1934 her parents moved to Storm Lake and after her mother's death on September 15, 1934 she continued to make her home with her father until he moved back to Newell in September, 1936. From that time until her death she was engaged as a clerk in Falck I. G. A. Store at Storm Lake. Grace was an active member of the Rebekah and Eastern Star Orders. She was also a diligent worker in the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Grace had a pleasant, friendly nature and made friends easily. She was honest and upright and would never go back on her friends. She was always ready to help out wherever she could do anyone a kindness. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Elmer, her son, Myron, his wife, Myrtle, and her grand daughter, Patricia, all of Newell. (Newell Mirror, 4-15-1937)
