Grace was born Nov. 29, 1904, to Barnabus "Barney" and Emma Jane Fickle Allender in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. When she was a small child her family moved to the North Platte area. Grace attended school in North Platte with exception of her senior year in high school, after which she graduated in Mount Pleasant. Grace taught rural school in Lincoln County before her marriage. Grace was born Nov. 29, 1904, to Barnabus "Barney" and Emma Jane Fickle Allender in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. When she was a small child her family moved to the North Platte area. Grace attended school in North Platte with exception of her senior year in high school, after which she graduated in Mount Pleasant. Grace taught rural school in Lincoln County before her marriage. On June 22, 1926, Grace was married to George W. Hood. Grace was a member of The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and served the church in many ways. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years, served as church treasurer, was on the diaconate, and was an elder emeritus. Grace was active in the PTA and was a Girl Scout leader. She was also in the Church Women United and helped start the Meals On Wheels Program in North Platte. She is survived by daughters Gwen McNeel and Linda (Jose) Torres, and grandson Steve Torres. Grace was preceded in death by her husband George; brothers Iliff, Morris and Leslie Allender; and son-in-law Robert McNeel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The First Christian Church. Services were Feb. 16 at Adams and Swanson Chapel with Pastor Cindy Ballard officiating. Burial was at the North Platte Cemetery. Arrangements were with Adams and Swanson Funeral Home.
