Description	:	Grace Brenneman, 96, of Goshen, Ind., formerly of Elida, died the evening of Feb. 27, 2010, at her daughter's residence. She was born April 12, 1913, near Archbold to Simon J. and Emma Kutzli Short, who preceded her in death. On June 6, 1943, she married Edwin Brenneman, who died in 1983. She was born April 12, 1913, near Archbold to Simon J. and Emma Kutzli Short, who preceded her in death. On June 6, 1943, she married Edwin Brenneman, who died in 1983. Mrs. Brenneman was the second of five children. She was 10 years old when her mother died. Her father remarried and had six more children. She and her husband lived on their farm until his death. She remained there until 2001, when she moved to Goshen, Ind. She attended Bowling Green State University, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught for 12 years prior to her marriage, first in one-room schools and then in Archbold, where she taught fifth grade. She was a member of Salem Mennonite Church, Elida, and attended Faith Mennonite Church, Goshen, Ind. She was active in many aspects of the church including making blankets, hats and school kit bags for relief. Survivors include a son, Allen (Sheryl) Brenneman, of Goshen, Ind.; a daughter, Margaret (Timothy) Thut, of Goshen, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Brenneman Ramer, Michelle Ester-bode, Tanya Brenneman Fast, Daniel Thut, Rebecca Thut Witmer, Amy Thut and Luis Francisco; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ada Short, Herma Gnagey and Helen Holsopple; and three brothers, Walter (Shirley) Short, Herbert (Arlene) Short and Roger (Doris) Short. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Art and Harold Short; two sisters, Bessie Emch and Doris Ebersole; and her stepmother, Elsie Nofzinger. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Salem Mennonite Church, Elida. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee.
