Description	:	Grace V. (Ask) Kinley, 82, passed away peacefully at her home Oct. 6, 2007, of heart failure. Grace was born at Toronto, S.D., on Nov. 4, 1924, to Hans C. and Amelia L. (Solem) Ask, and raised at Brandt, S.D., and Kanaranzi, Minn. She graduated from Magnolia (Minn.) High School in 1943. (Ask) Kinley, 82, passed away peacefully at her home Oct. 6, 2007, of heart failure. Grace was born at Toronto, S.D., on Nov. 4, 1924, to Hans C. and Amelia L. (Solem) Ask, and raised at Brandt, S.D., and Kanaranzi, Minn. She graduated from Magnolia (Minn.) High School in 1943. She then moved to Sioux City and was employed as a wartime steelworker at Sioux Steel. Her father's job with the railroad brought the family to Cedar Rapids in 1944. She was employed at Killian's Department Store, and later Collins Radio from 1951-1955. Grace loved to dance, which is how she came to meet her husband at Danceland Ballroom, Cedar Rapids. Hubert LeRoy Kinley and Grace Viola Ask were married on June 26, 1954, in a civil ceremony in Cedar Rapids. On May 17, 1977, they celebrated the sacrament of marriage in a wedding Mass with their five children attending, at St John's Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. In 1973, Grace rejoined the workforce at Wilson's/Farmstead, retiring in 1987. Grace loved to crochet and used her skills to make gifts for friends. She was a quilter, loved flower gardens, made pies from her apple trees, and made grape jelly from her own vines. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and passed on many holiday traditions to her family. She was a member of Local P3 Retirees, enjoyed going on bus trips to casinos, and chatting with friends on the phone. Grace was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. Her husband, Hubert, passed away suddenly on Nov. 15, 1982, shortly after the couple returned home from an evening of dancing at the Ponderosa Ballroom. We trust that they are dancing together again. Grace will be buried next to Hubert and his parents, at Calvary Cemetery, in rural Ryan, not far from the farm where he grew up. Grace is survived by five children, Susan Kinley of Iowa City, Matthew (Kathleen) Kinley of Cedar Rapids, Daniel Kinley of Cedar Rapids, Christine (Randy) Osborn of Mount Vernon, and Katherine Kinley of St. Paul, Minn.; and five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Jennifer (Kinley) Sommerfeldt and husband Drew, parents of baby Gweneviere of Waterloo, Bryan Osborn of Cedar Rapids, Sarah Kinley of Cedar Rapids, and Michelle Osborn and Aaron Osborn of Mount Vernon. She is also survived by one brother, William (Patricia) Ask, of Cedar Rapids. Her surviving sisters-in-law are Mrs. James (Dorothy) Ask of Luverne, Minn.; Ms. Mary Ellen Ask of Georgia; Mrs. Joseph (Marilyn) Kinley of Urbana; and Mrs. Lee (Bernice) Rittmer of Silver Lake, Wis. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert; parents; brothers and spouse, Charles (Mary) Ask, James, and Arley Ask; a sister and spouse, Evelyn (Percy) Grayson; and a nephew, Warren Ask. She had grieved the deaths of her husband's siblings: Joseph Kinley; Evelyn (Leonard) Estling; Mildred (John) Hildebrand; and brother-in-law, Lee Rittmer. Her funeral Mass was set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon, Iowa. Interment in the Calvary Cemetery in Ryan was to follow the funeral luncheon. Friends called from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel, where a wake service began at 7 p.m. Memorials in Grace's honor may be made to The Hospice of Mercy, and/or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 212 Seventh Street S.E., Mount Vernon, IA 52314.
