Read More	Daughter of Rev Harvey A Halterman And Emma Ritchie Daily News-Record (Harrisonburg, VA) - Friday, March 19, 2004 Grace Velma Halterman Mathias, 85, of Mathias, W.Va., died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Va., where she had been a patient the past 3-1/2 weeks. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Harvey A. and Emma Ritchie Halterman, born Aug. 2, 1918, near Mathias, W.Va. On Sept. 20, 1940, she married Woodrow Wilson Mathias who passed away Nov. 7, 1967. Together they owned and operated Mathias Feed and Hardware Store, which Mrs. Mathias continued to operate until the early 1980's. Mrs. Mathias was a member of the Mathias Church of the Brethren where she participated in the Choir and the Women's Fellowship. She was active in the Mathias Ladies Auxiliary, Mathias Rescue Squad, Mathias Extension Homemakers Club, Hardy County Democratic Women's Club and President of the Mathias Cedar Hill Cemetery Association until she resigned due to failing health. Mrs. Mathias is survived by two daughters; Carol Bottalico, Alexandria, Va., who she lived with the past several years; Mary Beattie, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; Sons-in-law, Matthew Bottalico and Paul Beattie; six grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; five great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; nephew; Herman Halterman whom she raised and numerous other nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Halterman Gallo, brothers; William "Brown" Halterman, Rev. M. Ward Halterman and Harry Halterman, half-sister; Clelia Mongold and half brothers Waldo Halterman and Sam Ritchie. Services will be held at the Mathias Church of the Brethren on Sunday, March 21, 2004, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Landis Dove and Rev. Olin Bailey officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery immediately following the church service On Sept. 20, 1940, she married Woodrow Wilson Mathias who passed away Nov. 7, 1967. Together they owned and operated Mathias Feed and Hardware Store, which Mrs. Mathias continued to operate until the early 1980's.
