On May 17, 1939, Irene was married to Everett A. Pontow at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Hastings. Irene worked at the Henningsen Egg Plant in Malvern and at Mulholland Grocery. She also participated in the Foster Grandparent Program at Glenwood State Hospital School. Among Irene's personal interest were knitting. She also enjoyed her family and had a special fondness for her grandchildren. Irene loved her residence at Malvern Village and enjoyed the hospitality of her neighbors. Irene was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Hastings and the Malvern Senior Citizens Center and Thirty Niners Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Everett in 1981, an infant son Alvin and brother Richard Foy. Irene is survived by two sons; Raymond (Butch) Pontow and his wife Susan of Beloit, Kansas, and Dennis Pontow of Malvern; a daughter Judith Wallace of Sacramento, California; five grandchildren: Jeremy and Darrah Pontow of Beloit, Kansas, and Paul, Daniel and Victoria Pontow of Malvern; sisters, JoAnne Kinser of Hillsboro, Oregon, LeEtta Bierbaum of Wwestland, Michigan, and Rosalee Cook of Atlantic, Iowa; two brothers, Harold Foy of Pacific Grove, California, and Maurice Foy of Mission, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Pontow of Malvern; brother-in-law, Elden Pontow and his wife Josephine of Malvern; and sisters-in-law Peggy Pontow of Malvern, Elizabeth Cramer of Bremerton, Washington, Alta Pontow of Council Bluffs, several nieces and nephews; many relatives and friends. Graveside Memorial Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 10, at 10:30 a.m., at Malvern Cemetery with Pastor Edwin Williams of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home of Malvern was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
