Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," March 13, 1953: Granville Louis (Bill) Bivins, 64, of Ottumwa route 6, died at his home at 9 a.m. Thursday. Born in Crawford, Kan., October 17, 1888, he was the son of Samuel and Nancy M. Fountain Bivins. He had been a resident of the Ottumwa community for the past 43 years. He was married to Letha Shimer, November 25 [sic], 1930. He was a veteran of World war I, having served as a private in the casualty detachment No. 278, and was later assigned to the regimental replacement troop. He served several months in France. Discharged at Camp Dodge in 1919, he was a member of the O.B. Nelson post No. 3 of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Letha; one stepson, Henry Shimer of Kansas City, Mo.; two step-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Eva Pennington of Burns, Ore., and Mrs. Prudie Hilderbrand of Estella, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at the Johnson funeral chapel at 1 p.m. Monday in charge of the Rev. LaVerne Morris of the Davis Street Christian church. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery. Military services will be conducted at the grave. Pallbearers will be Howard Wallace, Donald Stufflebeam, William Scott, Lee Harris, Adolph Davis, and Earl Campbell.
