Pitts was born in West Virginia, April 19, 1826, died in Montgomery county, Indiana Jan. 7, 1901. Aged 74 years, 8 mouths and 28 days. While yet a small boy he went to Kentucky, where he lived until 1850 when he removed to Indiana and remained there until Sep. 26, 1883 when he came to Kansas and settled on the old Scoville farm until the following spring he moved into the Walnut neighborhood, where in 1887 his wife died. In 1888 he went back to Indiana and continued there as his home coming back to Kansas on two different occasions to visit his children. In 1849 he and Miss Mary A. Carver were united in marriage. This union was happily consumated by the birth of seven boys and four girls. Two of the boys and one girl preceding him to the better land. Five of the boys, one daughter-in-law and several grand children were at the depot to receive ail that remained of one whom each one loved. The deceased was converted to Christ and joined the M. E. church of which body be remained a faithful member until death. His last hours were spent peacefully contemplating the future and giving to those about him a reason for the hope of his high calling. The funeral was held from the Walnut Hill church on Wednesday, Jan, 9, Rev. C R. Bixler of La Harpe officiating. The interment was had in the Walnut Hill cemetery. Mr. Pitts was well and favorably known here some thirteen or fourteen years ago. The community joins with the Sun in extending sympathies to the bereaved. -Uniontown Sun. Contributor: Mindy
