Description	:	Gregory "Greg" L. Ethington, 64 of Carroll and formerly of Charles City died Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. A funeral service for Greg will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Rudd United Methodist Church, 611 6th Street, Rudd with Pastor Wendy Johannesen presiding. Full military funeral honors will be conducted by the Nora Springs American Legion H.D.S. Post 449. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Rural Rudd. Hawkeye Avenue, Nora Springs and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Tuesday. Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Greg's name in care of his family. Gregory Lee Ethington, son of Gayle and Marvelle (Noah) Ethington was born March 17, 1949 in Charles City, Iowa. He attended school in Rudd and graduated with the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock High School Class of 1967. Following his high school education, he studied at NIACC and later attended Iowa State University where he was enrolled in the engineering program. He enlisted in the United States Navy, served on the USS Saratoga, served his country faithfully for four years and was later honorably discharged. Following his military service, he began working for the City of Charles City in the engineering department and later worked for Howard R. Green Company in Charles City. On October 14, 1978, he was united in marriage to Nancy Smith and to this union, they would be blessed with their daughter, Heather. Greg returned to Iowa State and received his degree in Civil Engineering. He was employed with Cerro Gordo County as the Assistant Engineer and later moved to Lake Mills in 1998, where he was the City Engineer and Public Works Director. In 2001, Greg and Nancy moved to Carroll, Iowa and he worked as an Engineer at JEO Consulting Group, retiring in 2012. Greg loved to golf, bowl, fish, camp and enjoyed playing cards. He was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR, his favorite driver being Matt Kensett. He loved making his Dr. Jethros Beer. Most importantly, he spent much of his time with his family and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Chloe. He was a past member of the Elks Lodge. Greg is survived by his wife, Nancy Ethington, Carroll; daughter, Heather (Scottie) Cassell and the love of his life, his granddaughter, Chloe, all of Ridgeway VA; mother, Marvelle (Burr) Squier, Rudd; brothers, Tom (Kris) Ethington, Mason City, Brad (Jill) Ethington, Rudd, Raymond (Sandy) Squier, Mason CIty; Bob (Cathy) Squier, Salt Lake City, UT, and Dennis (Karen) Squier, Mason City; sister, Mary Ann (Marty) Lucas, Colfax, IA; mother-in-law, Donna Mack, Garner; brother-in-law, Bill Mack, CT along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Gayle Ethington, maternal and paternal grandparents; fathers-in-law, Robert Smith and Dr. W. J. Mack and his brother-in-law, Scott Smith.
