Gretchen was born January 21, 1926 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel Thomas and Anthia (Lewis) Price. She graduated from Boone High School. Following high school, Gretchen continued her education at Kirkwood Community College and University of Iowa, receiving her degree in Dentistry. On June 9, 1944, Gretchen married Chris Grabau Jr. in the Grace United Methodist Chapel in Des Moines, Iowa. Gretchen was a certified and registered Dental Assistant and certified practice manager. She worked with the late H.J. Spies DDS and Elon G. Tucker DDS. She then worked for D.W. Tucker DDS in Boone. Gretchen was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Boone. She was a republican activist serving the state, local and district in Iowa. Gretchen was active in her professional organizations, the American Dental Assistants Association and Iowa Dental Assistants Association. She was a Boone County United Way Board of Director and also served as a 4-H Leader. Gretchen is preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Maye Lorraine Irwin and Margaret Ann VonKrog and her husband Chris Grabau Jr. on Monday, December 9, 2013. Grabau (Jerry) of Ankeny, Iowa; her three grandchildren, Kalvin Grabau-Keele (Paige); Jeff Lightfoot (Jenn) and Shawn Lightfoot; her two great grandchildren, Olivia Lightfoot and Willow Grabau-Keele.
