Description	:	Gretchen Bowden, age 80, of Madison, SD, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at her home while under hospice care. Memorial service will be 11:00 AM on Friday, December 9th at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Rev. Warren Uecker officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 PM on Thursday, December 8th at Weiland Funeral Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in Carthage Cemetery. Gretchen Marie Sandven was born October 6, 1936, at Morefield, SD, the daughter of Daniel & Gretchen (Casberg) Sandven. She grew up and graduated from Carthage High School, Carthage, SD. She was involved in all musical activities and played the organ for Trinity Lutheran Church. Gretchen married Jerry L. Bowden on January 7, 1957. They had four sons, David, Duane, Timothy and Thomas. She traveled alongside Jerry in the Air Force to Denver, Portland and Anchorage. Gretchen is survived by her children, David of Egan, SD, Tim (Donna) and Tom (Sondra) both of Sioux Falls, SD; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Dan (Lucy) of Hill City, SD; sisters, Karen of Hawaii and Marybeth (Emil) of Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; son, Duane and her brother, Darrell. Gretchen was thankful for her family and for the care she received during her life with ALS. - Weiland Funeral Chapel
