Read More	Johnson County Courier Sterling, Johnson County, Nebraska Thursday, January 16, 1964 Mrs. Harm Agena Gretje Aden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Aden, was born March 24, 1876 at Golden, Ill. April 16, 1876 she was baptized by Pastor Kleinlein. In 1884 she, with her parents, moved to a farm west of Sterling, Nebr. After receiving religious instruction she was confirmed by Pastor Burmeister in Immanuel Lutheran church west of Sterling on March 22, 1891. April 20, 1899 she was married to Harm Agena, and this union was blessed with 10 children, seven of whom survive their parents. In 1949 Mr. and Mrs. Agena celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, with all their children and grandchildren present for the occasion. It was the happy privilege of this couple to be blessed with more then 61 years of wedded life. In 1950 Mr. and Mrs. Agena and their son Martin moved to Adams from the farm east of that town. Mr. Agena died Sept. 4, 1960. Mrs. Agena was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran church, and attended church faithfully and regularly as long as her health permitted. She had been in failing health about a year. Monday afternoon, January 6, she became critically ill, and she died peacefully Wednesday morning, January 8, 1964 at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 14 days. Hers was a long and useful life and she will be greatly missed by her children, for she was always a loving and devoted mother. Surviving are her seven children: Martin, at home; Mrs. Louis Schoen, Mrs. Ben DeBuhr and Mrs. Raymond Mahler, Adams; Herman and John Agena, Lincoln; Henry Agena, Bellevue. There are also 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Annie Parde of Adams; one brother, Adolph Aden of Hildreth; and many other relatives. A prayer service was conducted Sunday afternoon in the Griffiths-Fox chapel in Adams, followed by the funeral at two o'clock in Immanuel Lutheran church west of Sterling. Rev. A. Wittrock officiated. Pallbearers were grandson: Laverne Dissmeyer, Arnold Schmidt, John Jurgens, Harold Agena, Lavern Agena and Charles Pittman. Burial was in the church cemetery. ___________________________________________ Harm Agena's Wed Fifty Years ------------------------ Golden Wedding Day Is Gala Event For Honored Couple -------------------------------- Sunday was a day of great happiness for Mr. and Mrs. Harm Agena of Adams, who celebrated their golden wedding anniversay, April 24, with a dinner at noon, and open house from 2:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon. At that time many relatives and friends called to wish them much good luck and happiness. The dining room was beautifully decorated in golden yellow, with yellow roses on each of the two tables. The lace covered table was centered with a large white wedding cake decorated with golden leaves and flowers. Candle holders with white candles were on either side of the cake. Mrs. Arnold Schmidt and Mrs. John Jurgens served at the bridal table. Mrs. Edwin Schmidt and Miss Marlene Schoen served at the other table. They wore white organdy aprons trimmed in gold. Miss Dora Frerichs had charge of the guest book. Mrs. Agena wore a black dress and a white gardenia corsage. Mr. Agena wore a white carnation boutonniere. Rev. C. F. Schrein of Immanuel Lutheran church addressed the honored couple with fitting words and two appropriate songs were sung by the guests. The brief and impressive service closed with the Lord's prayer. Cake, ice cream and coffee were served to the afternoon callers. Dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. John Agena and family, Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Agena and family, Bellevue; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Agena and family, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Louis A. Schoen and family, Cortland; Martin Agena, Mr. and Mrs. Ben DeBuhr, Mr.a nd Mrs. Raymond Mahler, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Schmidt and Teresa, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Schmidt and Ronald, Miss Dora Frerichs, Adams; Mr. and Mrs. John Jurgens and Velda, Filley; Mr. and Mrs. John Aden, Beatrice; Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Aden, Deshler; Henry Aden, Scottsbluff; Rev. C. F. Schrein, Mrs. Lena Agena, Mrs. Katie Huls, Mrs. Annie Hestermann, C. J. Agena and Mrs. R. Kress. Sterling. During the afternoon, those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Carrol Aden and daughter, Gering; Rex Aden, Scottsbluff; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Aden and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walker and son, Beatrice; Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Puckett, Dr. and Mrs. Earl V. Weideman, Lincoln. Harm Agena and Gretje Aden were married April 20, 1889 in St. John Lutheran church in Sterling. Pastor Wendt performed the ceremony. All of their married life has been spent in the Sterling-Adams community. Seven children have blessed the lives of this couple, and they are: John, Henry, Herman, Mary (Mrs. Louis A. Schoen), Martin, Clara (Mrs. Ben DeBuhr) and Martha (Mrs. Raymond Mahler). There are also fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Every one of these were present except one grandson, LaVern Agena, in the navy. The honored couple received many beautiful and useful gifts on their anniversary, and many flowers and cards expressing the congratulations and best wishes of a host of friends and relatives.
