Description	:	Griffith Lytle moved his family to Kansas in 1879 after serving in the Civil War. They first moved to Iowa for a short period. He took the Union Pacific train to Fossil Station (now Russell), Kansas and walked about 60 miles cross country to the Rose Valley area northwest of Downs where he purchased a quarter section of land near the Osborne County-Smith County border. He walked back to Fossil Station and took the train back to Iowa. My grandmother told me the family then traveled by covered wagon back to their new home. Griffith helped construct...
