Tyson, aged 68, one of the best known citizens of Pitt county passed away at his home in Farmville township yesterday afternoon at 6:30 o'clock. He had been practically an invalid for several months and his death was no surprise to immediate members of the family. Funeral services will be conducted from the home near Arthur Sunday afternoon at three o'clock and interment will take place in the family burying grounds a short distance from the Tyson home place. Mr. Tyson was born in Farmville township May 2nd, 1854. He lived within five miles of the place of his birth all his life and was intimately connected with the agricultural development of the section. He was one of the best known characters in the county and contributed his part to the rapid growth and development of the county and especially in the section where he was born. He was a staunch Democrat of the Jeffersonian type and in his younger days rendered this party distinguished service. He was particularly well informed regarding the early history of Pitt county and proved an entertaining character to everyone with whom he became in contact. He was active and alert until the death of his wife several months ago. He was ill when she died and hasn't been able to leave the house since that time. Mr. Tyson was twice married. His first wife Miss Lydia Horne, of Pitt county, one son, Mr. J. J. Tyson of Alabama survives this union. His second wife was Miss Clara Alethia Frizelle, of Greene county. They were married thirty-four years ago. Mrs. Tyson died May 31st, 1922. Eight children, five sons and three daughters survive this union: They are: Elbert M. Tyson, Mrs. John Flanagan, G. T. Tyson Jr., Owen L., Lydia, Moses F., Glenn, and Christine Tyson. Mr. Tyson was a member of the ???? ???? Church which at he served faithfully during his active days. He was also prominently connected with many families scattered throughout the country. He was particularly interested in his relatives and every Thanksgiving day held a reunion at his home. The reunions grew with each succeeding year and two or three years ago a Tyson reunion association was formed to make arrangements for the annual event. The death of this well-known figure will occasion keen regret throughout many parts of the state where he is well known and the funeral services tomorrow will be largely attended. Grigg Thomas Tyson,Sr. was the son of John and Laney Tyson and husband of Clara Oletha Frizzelle Tyson. He was a farmer. His death in Beaver Dam, Pitt County was caused by apoplexy. Death certificate indicates DOD as Nov 24, 1922. He was buried November 26, 1922.
