Guilford's obituary, which I have transcribed below, gave his place of birth as Keokuk, which is actually in Lee County, Iowa. The son of Ernest and Martha Miller, he was born October 20, 1862, in Keokuk. He had been a resident of Ottumwa since 1918. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Liona; one daughter, Mrs. May [sic] Black of Portagela Prairie, Manitoba, Canada; and three grandchildren, Keith Black and Lowell Black, both of Portagela Prairie, and Mrs. Alva Hunt of Ottumwa route 5. The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel pending completion of funeral arrangements. "MILLER SERVICES," From "Ottumwa Daily Courier," Friday, September 17, 1948, Page 11: Funeral services for Gilford Miller, 333 North Sheridan avenue, who died Thursday will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral home. The Rev. Donald H. Gill of the First Christian church will be in charge. Burial will be in McCormick cemetery at Highland Center. Pallbearers will be Vernell Toemmes, Roscoe Schertz, Harry Rice, Harry Spragg, Vernon Davis and Norton Davis.
