Gussie Jean Fanning, daughter of the late Gus and Nettie (Menefee) Berry, the youngest of fourteen children, was born on March 10, 1929, in Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away October 13, 2018, at Share Convalescent Home in Alva, at the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 3 days. She was united in marriage to Clifton Roots on August 10, 1945, in Alva and to this union four daughters were born. While raising her family, Gussie went to Beauty College and upon graduating she opened a salon in her home called Suburban Salon. She later purchased the Merle Norman Studio and the Town and Country Salon. In 1948, she was baptized at the First Christian Church of Alva. Gussie always enjoyed a challenge and after many years of being a hair stylist she decided to go to school to become a real estate agent. After receiving her license, she worked for Don Campbell Real Estate. Gussie was a skilled entrepreneur, she became the owner of Fire and Ice Jewelry Stores in both Alva and Perry, Oklahoma. She later went on to successfully manage several hotels. Gussie enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling in the motor home. She also enjoyed sewing, dancing, and cooking. Besides her parents, Gussie was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifton Roots, Roscoe McLemore, and Jim Fanning; daughter, Jerri Roots Klossner; grandson, Logan Klossner; stepson, Jessie McLemore; and six brothers and six sisters. Gussie is survived by her three daughters, Bonita Stewart and husband, Russ, Janet Wanger and husband, Max, and Deby Coon and husband, Ken; four stepchildren, David McLemore, Fred McLemore, Jay Fanning, and Kelly Fanning; nine grandchildren, Staci Davey and husband, Bryan, Jeff Stewart, Chad Stewart, Machelle Hooper and husband, Cody, Misty Beiswanger and husband, Ryan, Taurean DuHart and husband, James, Levi Coon and wife, Kelly, Micah Bartocha and husband, Tony, Dakota Klossner and wife, Christina. Also surviving are sixteen great grandchildren, Whitney Judd and husband, Nick, Anthony and Brandy Stewart, Landon and Nicole Stewart, Jacob Stewart, Taylor and Ty Hooper, T.W. and Maddy Beiswanger, Grace and Noah DuHart, Elijah and Crimson Bartocha, Jamison, Logan, and Austyn Klossner; six great great grandchildren, Jaxen and Carson Judd, Brooklyn, Brayden, Jayden, and Kynleigh Stewart; Share Convalescent family; other relatives and friends. Memorial may be made through the funeral home to SMC Foundation, specified for Share Convalescent Home or the University of Oklahoma Foundation for neuroscience.
