Casual attire requested. Come as you are. Gustav Joe Bentz, AKA Super Dad, AKA Wizard, the best husband an 18-year-old girl could dream of. Gus was born to William C. "Bill" Bentz and Lavone Micanek Bentz on July 28, 1956, in Lynch, Nebraska. He departed on Monday, November 29th for his heavenly home with his wife of 37 years by his side. He was also surrounded by his two children, son-in-law, and sister-in-law. Gus is survived by his wife Nicole (Havranek) Bentz of 37 years; daughter and son in law and son. He is also survived by his wonderful mother, Lavone Bentz; twin brothers, nieces, nephew, sister and brother-in-law. In addition to immediate family, Gus leaves behind mother-in-law, brother-in-law and wife, sister-in-law and husband. He leaves behind an incredible extended family and many friends. Gus was raised and lived in Spencer, Nebraska his entire life. He graduated in 1974 from Spencer Public School. He took part in basketball and Legion baseball. Baseball was his passion through his life. Gus loathed every moment of his one semester at Wayne State College. He knew his calling; no degree was needed. He believed being effective does not always need a piece of paper. Life experience, humbleness, and honesty define a person. Spencer State Bank, owned by his father, was Gus's day home beginning in June 1973. He worked with his dear friend, Gwen Pfeifer, his entire career. Brothers Joe, John, and sister Joni joined in the family bank. In 2002, Gus took the reins from his dad and became the president. He held this position until July 31, 2014. The bank was then acquired by an Investors Group lead by the Stull Family of Bridgeport, Nebraska, now known as Farmers State Bank. Gus enjoyed his time in the bank until his end. Gus was preceded in death by hundreds including his many pups, Bosley, Bo, Picabo, Max, and Bellah. We are confident they are joyfully reconnecting. If you knew Gus, you either loved him or you didn't. He loved in this order: his smoking hot wife, his brilliant kids and family, his many friends, Boston Red Sox, Kansas City Royals (George Brett days), Pittsburg Steelers (Terry Bradshaw), Camaros, jeeps, his collection of baseball cards, bottle openers, cool poker chips, music, books (that he did not read), camping, Route 66, breakfast in bed and Hallmark movies, road trips, craft beer, and beaches. (The Christmas tickets to Florida are still in his desk at the bank.) The list goes on forever. Gus strongly disliked cold, wind, ice, snow, funeral dinners, and potlucks. Gus, you were the love of my life, the kids and I have missed you since your last breath. Reverend Grant H. Graff will officiate, with a private family burial at a later date.
