Baker Guy Ernest Baker, 74, was born September 26, 1916, on a farm south of Pauline, Nebraska, to William Dowl and Myrtle Stethem Baker. He passed away Sunday, February 24, 1991, at the St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska. On June 17, 1942, he was united in marriage to Louise Catherine Reiman at St. Stephens Church near Lawrence, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three children, Eldon, William, and Sheila. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served from 1941 to 1945. Upon returning from the Army, they lived in Chester, where Guy drove a gas transport truck. In 1947 they moved to Pauline where he was employed by the county. In 1950 they returned to farming in the Pauline-Blue Hill area. At this time he also worked at the Navy Ammunition Plant and at Hastings Regional Center. In 1972, upon retirement, they moved to Blue Hill. Guy and Louise enjoyed their years on the farm, where Guy was happiest as he tilled the soil and worked with his cattle. He enjoyed their camp outings and time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of American Legion Shirley Post #176, Blue Hill. Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Louise; and one brother, Floyd of Edgar; and two sisters, Dorothy Reiman of Blue Hill and Marie Lighthill of Sikeston, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold; and four sisters, Agnes Hagar, Jessie Kissler, Leona Schmidt, and Betty Mau The Rosery was recited Tuesday evening at the Merten-Butler Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers were Donald Kissler, William Kile, Garry Reiman, William Frahm, Burdel Reiman, and Floyd Baker. Honorary Pallbearers were Albert Wademan, Vern Allen, Donald Piel, Roy Alber, and Howard Jesske. Services were at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Wednesday with Father Valerian Bartek officiating. Marlys Kart was organist and Evan Barton was soloist. He sang "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace", and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again". Burial was at the Blue Hill Cemetery with Military Rites by American Legion Post #176 of Blue Hill. Merten-Butler Mortuary of Blue Hill was in charge of arrangements.
