Redwing was born to Stephen Gilbert Redwing and Elsie Sarah (Hemans) Redwing on January5,1923, at Niobrara, and passed away March 1, 1992, at his home in Fairmont at the age of 69 years, 1 month, and 25 days. He was one of five children in the family. As a young boy guy attended District School outside of Niobrara and also attended the Flandreau Indian School to the 11th grade in Flandreau, S.D. In February of 1943, he was drafted in the European Theatre of World War II, receiving his discharge in February 1946. He moved to Fremont in 1948, and worked for Orshek construction for three years. Guy then went to work for George A. Hormel Packing Plant in 1951, retiring after 33 1/2 years at the age of 61. He and family moved to McCool Junction in 1985. In 1988, they moved to Fairmont. Guy was married to Ruth Louise Sievert of Fremont on March 27, 1954, and to them two children were born. Guy liked fishing and camping. He loved the outdoors. He was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church. Guy enjoyed his job at Hormel's and told his family he never wanted to retire at the age of 61. His last wish which he never got to have was to go back up to the Black Hills, because that's where it all started, and he wanted to see them again. He made a lot of friends no matter where he went; young or old, you could always talk to him. He was a dear brother, dad, husband and grandfather; he worried about everybody and sometimes forgot about himself. He was excited about having another grandchild and holding the new baby. he loved all of his grandchildren. His wish was for all of us to love one another, and take care of one another, and he will always be in the minds and hearts of those who loved him. Guy was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Gilbert, and mother Elsie Sarah Redwing; one infant brother; one sister Edith; one nephew Donald. They were all from Fremont, and were laid to rest at Howe Creek at his mother's church. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Louise Redwing; one daughter, Dianne Mizner; one son, Steven Redwing; two stepchildren, Charles Sievert; and Sharon Buck; eight grandchildren, Staci, Corie, Dale, Dean, Trinity, Colton, Lisa, Jason, and Clinton; and by two great-grandchildren, Jordon and Holden.
