Description	:	Guy L. Cooper Jr., 91 years and nine months, died Nov. 10, 1998, at BayView. He was the son of the late Guy L. Cooper Sr. and Josephine Lovina (Bruun) Cooper. He was the son of the late Guy L. Cooper Sr. and Josephine Lovina (Bruun) Cooper. He was born Feb. 9, 1907, at the family home in Humboldt, Neb., where he lived the first 73 years of his life. Mr. Cooper attended public schools in Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School with the Class of 1923. He was the class president and first elected cheerleader at graduation. He then attended the University of Nebraska, earning his B.A. degree in 1927. He was a member of the Alpha Theta Chi Fraternity, which later joined the national Chi Phi Fraternity. He was alumni chairman for the fraternity from 1974-82. Mr. Cooper returned to Humboldt and joined the family business, the O. A. Cooper Company, eventually becoming president, chief executive officer and board chairman. He was involved in many trade organizations, serving as president of the Midwest Feed Manufacturers Association and the Nebraska Association of Locker Plants and Feed Processors, as well as serving for six years on the board of the American Feed Millers Association. Mr. Cooper was united in marriage to Evelyn Mae Kerr on Nov. 22, 1928, at the Presbyterian Manse in Humboldt, by Willard Randolph. To this union was born two children, Guy L. Cooper III and Prudence Ann. Mr. Cooper had involvements in politics, having served as president of the Consumers Public Power District and Nebraska Public Power District. He served as chairman of the Richardson County Republican Central Committee and was an alternate delegate to the 1944 Republican National Convention in Chicago and a full delegate to the 1972 Democratic National Convention in Miami. His civic involvements in the Humboldt area included serving as president of the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce and the Bruun Memorial Library. He was king of the Richardson County Free Fair in 1967-68 and received the key to the city from Mayor Wilbur Boss. In 1977, the Nebraska Public Power District decided to honor Mr. Cooper and his father by naming their new nuclear plant in Brownville the Cooper Nuclear Station in recognition of the distinguished leadership both provided to public power in Nebraska. He was six years on the president's advisory council of Peru State College and the chancellor's advisory committee of Kansas State University for the School of Feed Milling Technology. Mr. Cooper owned and operated several farms in the Bird City, Kansas, area, where his family has owned farmland since 1890. Mr. Cooper sold the O.A. Cooper Company to Central Soya on Aug. 1, 1980. He and his wife retired to St. Augustine in 1982. He decided to continue his education and enrolled in Flagler College, where he earned another B.A. in 1984, at the age of 79. He remains Flagler College's oldest graduate. In retirement he was a member of the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Augustine and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John and Charles, and daughter, Prudy. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, St. Augustine; son, Guy III and his wife, Alison, Cambridge, England; sister, Calista Hughes, Humboldt; three granddaughters, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Augustine, with the Rev. Robert Baker, pastor of Christ the King Parish, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the family section of Humboldt Cemetery, Humboldt, Neb. Friends may call at Craig Funeral Home chapel from 6 to 8 p.m., today, and prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at Craig chapel.
