The Floyd Herald, May 6, 1903 Killed by the Cars at Rudd Sunday - Guy Dean Meets a Most Frightful Death - Another Warning to Boys Who Jump on Trains - Sunday night as the 8:04 passenger train was pulling out of Rudd, Guy Dean and Ray Kerlin stepped on to the train to ride a short distance as is the custom of boys at depots and when a few rods from the deport young Kerlin jumped off and called to his companion to do likewise, and in doing so he fell in such a way that he was drawn under the cars, the wheels severing his head from his body, breaking his legs and mutilating his body. Ray Kerlin gave the alarm and Coroner Dennis was telephoned for, who went over on the early Monday morning train and held an inquest. The jury being composed of G. W. Boundage, Henry Schroeder, and Ace Wood, who returned a verdict that he came to his death by his own hands.
