Description	:	Guy Watson Mathis was the son of Davis Columbus, aka D.C., Mathis and Jurella Mathis, née Lonsford. He was 1 of 7 sons, and a fraternal twin to his brother Hal Cleveland Mathis. He was the second of his brothers to go off to war, where he served as a radio operator for the US Army in Panama during WWII. He had married Sarah "Edna" Greenwood on April 20, 1940. Read More	Guy Watson Mathis was the son of Davis Columbus, aka D.C., Mathis and Jurella Mathis, née Lonsford. He was 1 of 7 sons, and a fraternal twin to his brother Hal Cleveland Mathis. He was the second of his brothers to go off to war, where he served as a radio operator for the US Army in Panama during WWII. He had married Sarah "Edna" Greenwood on April 20, 1940. They had daughter Mary Ruth while he was still in service in 1946. After the war, he resumed his textile job at Chatham Mfg in Winston-Salem, NC and moved his family to Elkin, NC in 1951 when his second daughter Linda Faye was born coincidental to Chatham's operations transferring there. The family settled in Elkin the remainder of Guy's life, where he was a member of the Men's Choir, Sunday School Director, and Deacon at First Baptist Church, and served as P.T.A. President at Pleasant Hill Elementary School. He was a God fearing devoted family man, who left this life too early by dying of a heart attack at age 55. He had open-heart surgery in 1962 and was one of the first patients to have this surgery performed. His doctor had given him a prognosis of living another 6-8 years, and so he did, when he died on January 22, 1970. He was survived by his widowed mother Jurella of Rural Hall, wife Edna of Elkin, 2 daughters Mary Gaither (Champ) of Statesville and Linda Brown (Ab) of Elkin, granddaughter Alisa Michelle Gaither, and a grandson Lawrence "Todd" Gaither born 8 months after his death, his 6 brothers Graham aka Doc, Fleet, Rex, Hal, Troy and Joe and their wives and children.
