Gwen Craven passed away on January 14, 2016, at the Hearthstone Memory Care Unit of the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone at the age of 90. Gwendolyn Grace Valentine Craven was brought into the world by James and Catherine Valentine on May 16, 1925, in North Chicago, Illinois. Gwen Craven passed away on January 14, 2016, at the Hearthstone Memory Care Unit of the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone at the age of 90. Gwendolyn Grace Valentine Craven was brought into the world by James and Catherine Valentine on May 16, 1925, in North Chicago, Illinois. Cleaning was a passion of Gwen’s, so much so that this was her career. Even in her spare time she enjoyed helping others clean. You could typically find Gwen at the Boone Hy-Vee sitting in the deli having coffee with friends or standing at the pull tab machine. She loved going to Prairie Meadows or Meskwaki, and would sit at the same nickel slot machine for hours. She always said she didn’t have any bad habits, so this was her enjoyment. Gwen also enjoyed dancing, spending time with her kids and grandkids, and going to the rummage sales on Saturday mornings. The passion she had for her grandchildren was something unforgettable. There are lots of memories that made this woman who she was. Everyone who had the chance to know Gwen will greatly miss her. The generous things Gwen did for everyone will never be forgotten. Gwen is proceeded in death by her parents James and Catherine, twin sister Lucille, brother Donald, and first born son Richard. Gwen is survived by her eight children, Rex (Linda) Kinsey of Lincoln, NE, Dennis (Petie) Kinsey of Jefferson, IA, Catherine Krause of Jefferson, IA, Pamela Kinsey of Jefferson, IA, Debbie Riedesel of Churdan, IA, Kevin Majors of Boone, IA, Tammy Hougham of Boone, and Jeff (Stacy) Craven of Boone, IA. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Funeral services are Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone with Steve Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Junction Cemetery in Grand Junction. Gwen lived a full life and now will spread her wings and fly. Obituary & photo published by Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Inc.
