He was a member of the New Utrecht Dutch Church in 1677, and a deacon in 1683. He is not listed among those taking the oath in 1687. He is on the census roll as "Gysbert Tysse" with a wife and seven children in New Utrecht in 1698. In 1706 he was assessed at New Utrecht for 83 acres of land, purchased in 1700 from his half-brother, Adriaen. In 1709 and 1710 he made two large purchases of land in Monmouth County, New Jersey, a large farm for himself and a smaller one for his son Cornelius. On 23 Apr 1709 he purchased 460 aces in Middletown from Rev. Alexander Innes of Middletown (Trenton Deeds, I:387). On 5 Feb 1710 he purchased 200 acres in Shrewsbury from Tobias Hansen of Dover, New Hampshire (Monmouth Deeds, D:138). This tract was convyed to his "loving son, Cornelius," on 5 Jun 1711. On 20 May 1715, Geisbert conveyed his homestead of 460 acres to his son, Matthias (Monmouth Deeds, E:344). There is no trace of the older son, Adriaens in Monmouth County. It was the children of son Matthias who migrated to Somerset County. A.
